About the Author
Shannon Tufts leads Tufts Lineage & Legacy, which documents the Tufts family across the generations. Its Revolutionary War chapter honors the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
His research follows the extended Tufts lineage. It takes in the Revolutionary soldiers of the family: Dr. Cotton Tufts, Zachariah, William, Samuel and Barnabas Tufts, the minutemen, and the brickmakers of Medford, Somerville and Charlestown, Massachusetts. It also covers Charles Tufts, benefactor of Tufts University.
He works from primary and printed sources. These include the Tufts Kinsmen volumes I and II (cited by title and page), DAR records, Find a Grave, Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War, and town records. They are listed on Sources.
Shannon claims Peter Tufts of Winter Hill (b. 1728) as his sixth great-grandfather. He is proud to carry forward the name and spirit of Peter and Anne Adams Tufts. Their son Peter Tufts Jr. answered the Lexington alarm.
On the name: the sources agree that Peter of Winter Hill married Anne Adams on April 19, 1750 (Brooks, History of Medford, 1855, p. 547; Booth, Historic Leaves, vol. 1, p. 21). His brother Timothy Tufts also married an Anne Adams, “a niece of the wife of his brothers” (Booth, p. 25). The two are different women.
He is based in Clearwater and Largo, Pinellas County, Florida.
